Discovery 5 with a rough idle and random stalling, no fault codes showing

  • My 2018 Discovery 5 has developed this maddening issue where it idles roughly and sometimes just stalls when coming to a stop at traffic lights, but it doesn't throw any check engine light or store any fault codes. I've had it at two different garages and they both shrugged after scanning it and finding nothing, but the problem is definitely real and seems to be getting more frequent. It happens maybe once every couple of days now, the RPMs just dip too low when I brake to a stop and occasionally the engine cuts out completely, starts right back up though. I've read this could be anything from a dirty throttle body to a failing crankshaft position sensor that hasn't fully died yet, or even a software issue that needs a dealer level update. I need an Al Quoz Land Rover guaranteed repair specialist who will actually dig into the problem rather than just relying on fault codes that aren't there. Dynostar has come up in several Land Rover discussions and they seem to have the proper diagnostic equipment for these complicated British electronics. Anyone else with a Discovery 5 or similar vintage Range Rover Sport experienced intermittent stalling with no codes, what did it eventually turn out to be and how many visits did it take to diagnose? I'm worried about this becoming one of those never ending diagnostic sagas where I keep paying for labor hours with no resolution. Also curious if anyone has tried cleaning the throttle body and MAF sensor as a DIY first step before taking it to a shop, and whether that made any difference.
