I was speaking with a few colleagues recently about how some project disputes seem avoidable in hindsight and the conversation turned to dispute avoidance strategies rather than dealing with problems after they escalate. I am curious from people who have been through complex projects what actually made the biggest difference in practice was it better documentation earlier communication clearer decision making or bringing in outside input before positions became fixed.
