$150 for Cosmetics? Diablo 4 Players Push Back Against Berserk Bundle Prices
-
Blizzard’s latest Diablo 4 update has ignited controversy — not because of balance changes or gameplay flaws, but due to the $150 price tag slapped on new Berserk-themed cosmetics. The crossover, inspired by the legendary manga and anime, was expected to bring excitement to the game’s seasonal content. Instead, it sparked a major backlash from the community.
The cosmetic bundles, ranging from 2,500 to 2,800 Platinum each, culminate in a total cost of 16,500 Platinum. However, due to the way Blizzard sells its in-game currency, players need to purchase 18,500 Platinum, which costs approximately $150. This practice, common in mobile games, has found its way into a fully priced AAA title, frustrating many players.
A Reddit post by user HilltopHood highlighted this issue, breaking down the cost structure and calling out Blizzard’s pricing tactics. Hundreds of comments followed, many expressing anger or disappointment. “Why spend $150 on cosmetics in one game when I could buy several others?” one user asked.
The pricing strategy feels especially tone-deaf given the game's history. Diablo 3 was heavily criticized for its real-money auction house, which was ultimately removed. Players hoped Blizzard had learned from that debacle, but Diablo 4's monetization suggests otherwise.
Fans aren’t necessarily against paid cosmetics — many understand that microtransactions fund live service models. However, the lack of flexibility in purchasing specific items, combined with high overall costs, makes this update feel more like a cash grab than a celebration of a beloved franchise.
Blizzard would do well to address these concerns. A more player-friendly pricing model could go a long way toward rebuilding trust with the community.
