I wanted to share something with you about Facebook, which was actually something that I wasn’t aware of and which you may not be aware of either. In my case it’s actually costing me money.

The thing to do is to go into
go up to the top left-hand corner where the Facebook logo is and click on where the little icon is for messages. You click on that and you get a drop down menu.

The drop down menu shows you your five or six most recent messages. So far, so good. Now if you go to the bottom of that list you’ll see it says: ‘See all.’

So click on ‘See all’
it will open up your inbox properly. Click on one of the messages down the left-hand side and it will display it in the window that’s in the centre of the screen. Again, so far, so good.

Now, this is where the issue came.

I didn’t europe cell phone number list realize that there’s actually two inboxes in Facebook – not just your regular inbox, there’s also another one which is called ‘other.’ If you go up to where it says ‘inbox’ – just under the Facebook logo – you’ll see that there is the word ‘other.’ You click on that and it opens up another inbox. These are messages that you won’t see in your normal inbox.

Now I had realized this was the case
went into this ‘other’ and there were three messages – in fact there were more than three, I’ve deleted quite a few – but there were three messages in there, in particular, which caught my attention. This was something that was particularly troubling because I saw it and realized the messages were, in some cases, about 1½ month old. One of them was from a guy who had actually asked me about advertising on my site.

So I missed an opportunity
increase the revenue from my website just because I didn’t see this message, because I wasn’t aware of this ‘other’ inbox.

So you need to go to Facebook and go into your inbox and you’ll find that there is this other area. Just to give you an idea this is something which, again, a friend of mine had this problem as well. She’s in the entertainment industry and she missed out on somebody contacting her about a gig.

So this is something which could actually impact your business or, in the best case scenario, could be impacting your social life.

You might be wondering why do these particular messages go into the ‘other’ instead of going into your inbox.

Well the answer is very simple
This inbox was created for the messages that you get from the groups that you’re a member of. This is just a way of Facebook preventing you from clogging up your inbox so that it’s not difficult to see the people that you’re interacting with. So what it does is it segregates the messages from groups into the other inbox.

Now, of course, that doesn’t explain why – in my case – these three people who contacted me have gone into the ‘other’ inbox as well. I’ll explain that as well. It’s very simple…

They’re simply not connected to me, so we’re not ‘friends’ on Facebook.

This is something which
again, you’ll want to pay attention to because if you don’t check the ‘other’ inbox, you may miss the chance to connect with people who may well be beneficial to yourself and to your business.

Obviously, if you’re familiar with this already, then you already know about this and it’s just a good reminder for you to go ahead and keep checking the Other inbox. But if you don’t know about it then you need to go and check it out right now because there is a good chance that there will be messages in there of some import.

Whether you tweet about a hobby, your job industry or local news, you’re more likely to gain followers if you tweet about a specific topic.

If you tweet about everything
under the sun or tend to give too much information in a single tweet, your following probably won’t extend beyond your family and friends.

However, if you commit to tweeting

In terms of psychology, choosing a topic to tweet about makes sense because we all like to know that others share the same interests. Following a user who likes the same thing as you allows you to bond over that shared interest.

5. Tweet Professionally and Casually
We’re not all grammar sticklers, but posting tweets with frequent typos or awkward language won’t help you attract followers.

While it is important to tweet frequently, quality over quantity wins every time. Posting well-written, engaging tweets will give you the credibility needed to attract your first followers, and as mentioned earlier the more followers you have, the more you’ll gain in the future.

Proofreading your tweets before
your post them and making a point to use eloquent language will also help you keep followers over time. Chances are there are lots of people tweeting about the same things you are, so you need to give users a reason to follow you over them.

Professional tweets do not mean automated tweets. More than ½ the time someone un-follows a Twitter user, it’s because they tweet too much and seam automated.

You don’t have to sound like a
suit all the time either. According to the previous Psychology Today study, tweets and messages written in a casual tone are easier to read and digest, and have a higher “reply” rate, which can be seen as more valuable than “favorite” counts.

Twitter isn’t just about sharing information — it’s also about interacting with others. If you want to attract followers, it’s important for you to engage in a dialogue while you’re using the platform.

Those who frequently re-tweet others’ tweets, tweet at other users and give their opinions are more likely to have a high number of followers.

Also, I wrote an article a few
months ago where I mentioned one of Ann Tran’s quotes and sent her a direct message through Twitter to let her know about it. She responded quickly and was thrilled about the mention! As a bonus, she’s tweeted about the article at least 4-5 times by now and each tweet received around 20-30 re-tweets and favorites.

Keep in mind that people
don’t just use Twitter to get straight facts — they also want to know people’s opinions about events and news. We are social creatures and like to communicate with others — that’s why social media was created in the first place. Give your own take on what’s happening and people will be more likely to read your tweets.
